Maureen is a native New Yorker who has spent most of her adult life in Los Angeles. She began writing professionally as a reviewer and interviewer for Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine, her love of movies blossoming from years as a child actor and obsessive repeated viewings of classics on WOR-TV’s Million Dollar Movie.

She has published articles and essays in newspapers and magazines, poetry in numerous journals, and three novels for Penguin Random House and others. She has taught courses in composition, writing about film, and science fiction cinema at University of California, Santa Cruz, and American Music and Drama Academy (AMDA) in Hollywood.

Her early work reviewing movies fueled a desire to write a long piece on a single film. This desire became a five-year passion project and the result is her first non-fiction book, titled Alien In The Mirror: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Glazer, and Under The Skin (McFarland & Co., 2019, Audible, 2023).
